At $100 a hand? You're looking at $8,000 in action per hour and an expected loss of around $40. That's not a disaster in isolation, but it changes the entire shape of your session planning.

Why This Matters for Bankroll Management

Most players think about bankroll in terms of how many chips they buy in for. That's the wrong frame. The smarter question is: how many hours do I want to play, and what's the realistic hourly cost at this bet level?

If you walk in with $200 and sit at a $25 table, you've got roughly 20 hours of "expected" play before the math catches up with you — in theory. In practice, variance will throw you around long before that. You might double up in the first hour. You might be broke in 45 minutes. But the expected drain rate is real, and ignoring it is how people end up confused about why they "always lose" at certain tables.

The relationship between bet size and bankroll isn't linear in terms of risk — it's closer to exponential when you factor in variance. Bigger bets don't just mean bigger average losses; they mean wilder swings. A $5 player can sit through a rough stretch without much drama. A $100 player hitting a cold streak of eight hands is staring at an $800 hole before they've finished their drink.

The Counterintuitive Part Nobody Talks About

Here's what throws people off: betting bigger doesn't make you a worse player. The edge percentage is the same. What it does is compress your timeline. You're not getting a worse deal at the $25 table — you're just reaching the same mathematical destination faster.
